• The police force receiving the report will first determine if they are the correct force to investigate, as different forces have jurisdictions for certain areas or types of crimes (e.g., British Transport Police for train stations).
• If the correct force, they will then assess the report and decide if they can investigate further. 

2. Investigation:

• The police will take initial steps, such as:
  • Talking to the witness and the victim. 
  • Assessing the crime scene. 
  • Checking the recorded CCTV camera or other video footage. 
  • Gathering other evidence (e.g., forensic evidence, witness statements). 

3. Ongoing Support and Information:

• The police will keep the victim informed about the progress of the investigation, if possible.
• The police will also offer support and advice to the victim throughout the process.
