Sales of Building Materials Signal Growth for Housing Sector

Strong Sales of Building Materials Signal Growth for Wales’ Housing Sector

Wales is showing strong signs of economic resilience, with the latest figures from the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) revealing a 15.4% rise in sales of building materials in March compared to the same time last year. This performance puts Wales ahead of the rest of the UK and paints an encouraging picture for the housebuilding sector.

In addition, Wales led the UK in the first quarter of 2025 with a 5.9% year-on-year increase in materials sales. The BMF’s Building Materials Building Index (BMBI) is widely seen as an important indicator of construction and housing market activity, and these latest numbers are a welcome boost for businesses and developers across the region.
