Born out of a passion for business and a keen eye for opportunity, Philip Popham’s commercial journey did not start in the boardrooms of corporate enterprises, but in the changing rooms of Welsh professional football clubs. Having started his career as an apprentice with Cardiff City FC at the tender age of 15, fate dealt him a different hand when health issues cut short his dreams of a professional football career at the age of just 24. Undeterred by the setback, he found a new purpose within his family’s plant hire business located north of Bridgend.
From making tea and cleaning machinery to taking over the finance reins from his mother in 1999, Popham’s ascent within Colebrid Plant Ltd was a testament to his resilience and ingrained desire to succeed. By the time his father retired from the company in 2000, he had already laid the groundwork for significant growth, eventually increasing the company’s turnover fivefold to £1 million.
However, the sportsman turned businessman’s ambitions soon outgrew the confines of the family firm in 2007. Detailed market research saw him seizing upon an untapped market opportunity, when he ventured into the realm of security services with the inception of SECUREIT, initially as a part-time endeavour before transitioning to full-time operations in 2008.
The catalyst for SECUREIT’s formation stemmed from an astute observation of his customers’ operational needs. Identifying the limitations of many existing security solutions, he embarked on a mission to revolutionise the security industry with cutting-edge technologies and unparalleled service quality.
