At SECUREIT, we pride ourselves on staying at the forefront of security technology. As one of the fastest-growing fire prevention and CCTV security solutions companies in Wales, we’re committed to helping our clients protect their people, property, and businesses with the smartest solutions available.
One term we often use with our customers is PIR—but not everyone knows what it means or why it matters.
PIR stands for Passive Infra-Red detection, a technology that has quietly revolutionised the security industry.
PIR sensors detect changes in infrared radiation—essentially, the heat emitted by people, animals, and objects. When someone enters a monitored space, the sensor recognises the change in heat signature and instantly triggers an alert. This allows for real-time monitoring and rapid response to potential intrusions.
What makes PIR so effective is its accuracy, reliability, and low false-alarm rate when correctly installed and calibrated. Unlike basic motion sensors, PIR devices are more adept at ignoring environmental movement (like wind-blown trees or passing shadows), making them ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.
PIR technology has become a vital part of integrated security systems, combining with CCTV, alarms, and even AI-powered monitoring to provide complete situational awareness—especially in remote or high-risk locations. This means stronger deterrence, faster response times, and better protection for your assets.
At SECUREIT, we offer PIR-enabled systems across key locations in South Wales, including Newport, Cardiff, Swansea, and the Valleys—providing businesses of all sizes with flexible, cost-effective security coverage.
Philip Popham, Managing Director of SECUREIT, explains:
“PIR technology has transformed how we secure sites. Its ability to detect heat-based movement and integrate seamlessly with other systems makes it an essential part of modern security infrastructure. At SECUREIT, we believe in solutions that are as intelligent as they are robust.”
